This great review was posted on the restaurant review site Eatability, by Alisso on 20th May, 2010.

It’s not possible to praise Chedi enough for their combination of great food, great service, and complete confidence in their gluten free options. One of my friends suffers from coeliac disease, and finding a restaurant that serves reliably gluten free food (cross-contamination is almost always a risk) and can provide detailed information on what’s on offer, is always a challenge.

Every time she visits Sydney, we make an excuse to go to Chedi, and we have never had a bad experience there. The food is always amazing, and the last few times we’ve been, we’ve been told that, barring a few entree dishes, pretty much everything on the menu is gluten free, without any alterations required. This is such a rarity as to be almost unheard of.

Knowing we can sit down and order whatever we want takes so much of the stress out of managing gluten intolerance. And knowing that the food is going to be brilliant every time helps too. They also offer vegetarian dishes, and have been extremely helpful to other friends of mine who suffer from food allergies and intolerances.

On top of all of this, the service is fast, efficient and skilled, half the time your meal starts arriving before you’d imagine it could possibly be ready and the staff are friendly and helpful. If you’re looking for good Thai food, or good gluten free food in Newtown, you really can’t go past Chedi.

PS: The salt and pepper squid is fantastic.

Enjoy Gluten Free Thai

I had to post this most positive review, which was originally posted on Eatability under Chedi Restaurant. The reviewer’s username is MPreston and they have posted a total of 40 restaurant reviews on Eatability, so I know they eat out a lot and know their restaurants.

The review:

Wow! Now I love my Thai-but this is not your typical Thai eatery. Great ambience with nice wide tables and comfortable chairs, fantastic place to enjoy a great meal and have great conversation.

The food is very very good. Each dish had its own crisp distinctive flavour with ample portions. We recently travelled to Thailand where we enjoyed some wonderful meals, and I can say the food at Chedi is comparable and in some respects better. Great service and great value for a truly quality dining experience. We will dine at Chedi very soon again!

Enjoy

The quality of the food stands out here, one of the more reasonably priced Thai restaurants on King St. A group or couple sharing entrees and the generous mains will only be looking at around $20 a head.

“ESCAPING Newtown’s hustle and bustle Is Chedi, an authentic Thai restaurant with gentle décor and sharp flavours.

The quality of the food stands out here, one of the more reasonably priced Thai restaurants on King St. A group or couple sharing entrees and the generous mains will only be looking at around $20 a head.

Chedi offers a good selection of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes: the flavours of each dish, like soft shell crab with green mango, subtly balance a contrasting mix of spicy, sweet, salty and sour.

After a decade of working throughout Asian in luxury hotels and resorts, owners Greg and Shanya Richardson provide customers with reliable, efficient and genuine service, as well as an exceptional menu.

Test out the floor-seating options and take advantage of Greg’s excellent knowledge of the extensive wine list.”

Chedi Note: This was a great review; which bought many new customers to experience Chedi Restaurant. As the author is unknown, I am unable to thank them but they are always welcome to return and try an excellent bottle of wine from our extensive wine list – on the house.

Unfortunately, for those who enjoyed the floor seating at traditional Thai style tables, this no long is an option. We decided to renovate and replace this area with standard (but nice) tables and wicker chairs. This was to accommodate the large bookings and functions, which could not be seated in the cushion area.
